Chinese Navigation Satellites

BD 2M (Beidou 2M), BD 2G (Beidou 2G), and BD 2I (Beidou 2I) satellites are components of the 2nd phase of the Chinese Beidou (Compass) satellite navigation system, which, in contrast to GPS and GLONASS, uses satellites in both geostationary and intermediate orbit. Beidou is the Chinese name of the Big Dipper constellation which was used in ancient navigation to locate the North Star. Beidou is already in operation for the Chinese and Asia-Pacific Area with global availability planned by 2020 when all satellites will have been launched.
